Dronfield make it a family try scoring day.
Dronfield played their return fixture away against Tupton 2xv, due to several cry off Dronfield turned up with a bare 15 players with no front row or a recognised 9.Tupton with 20 plus players agreed to play uncontested scrums with the number 8 able to pick up from the base of the scrum.
The game kicked off with Dronfield attacking down the slope. Dronfield soon showed their more structured game plan with Will ( The Viking) Backhouse , making massive yards in the centres. Dronfield scored after some good work by the forwards setting up wing Ash Martyn to acrobaticly score in the corner. Converted by Fly half Rob Holland. 7-0.
Dronfield continued to attack with good quick ball set up by the forwards with Dave "Sid" sidbottom making some massive ball carries. Dronfield where denied a try when the young referee denied Will Backhouse a try for alleged shoulder barge whilst diving over the line. Tupton's defence was soon breached again when good work by the backs, gave veteran full back Bob "geezer" Backhouse try on his birthday. 12-0.
Tupton tried hard with their big ball carriers making good yards but some excellent tackles by Dave " Sid Sidbottom Dave Hough stopped their attacks. With some great distribution from veteran 9 Jon "goose" White was able set up the next attack, with Matt Hunt crashing over for a score. 19-0. At half time. Tupton then began to make several changes with a number of 1st teamer s including former Dronfield player james Blakey coming on to bolster their attack. Dronfield also made changes with Veteran forward Keith " corn beef " Elsey turning up to play, for Dronfield in his fifth decade at Dronfield. Tupton soon had Dronfield on the back foot, only some stout defending ,from Ash Martyn and Ewan Croft prevented Tupton from scoring.
Tupton did score when their number 10 crashed through under the post.19-7 Dronfields dogged defence continued to frustrate the Tupton attacks. Dronfields dominance at line outs proved to be a massive attacking weapon with Dean O'Brien in total control. Unfortunately, Dean got yellow carded after a team warning about giving away too many penalties. Tupton numerical advantage was soon rewarded with a second converted try when their centre stretched out to score close to the line. 19-14 Dronfield even with 14 men continued to attack with Will " The Viking" Backhouse making massive yards. And Ashley Martyn dancing through Tupton's defences.
Tupton then gave away a penalty Infront of the post which was calmly slotted over for three more points by Fly half Rob Holland 22-14. Dronfield now stepped up their attacks with Ash Martyn being a constant threat out wide. From such an attack. Ash was illegally taken out, and then Tupton's ill-discipline cost them a further 10 metres Dronfield chose to have a scrum 5 metres out ,from the Tupton try line.
