Dronfield U13’s welcomed Sheffield RUFC to a muddy Gosforth Fields this morning. In a highly competitive game the boys put in an enormous shift with only 14 players available against a Sheffield squad of 24. In a first half using the slope as an advantage Sheffield utilised their pace out wide with two early tries and had success stealing the ball at the breakdown. Dronfield managed to become quicker to the ruck and competed well in the scrum to secure more possession as the half went on. With some excellent multiple phases of play gaining territory, Dronfield responded with tries of their own going into the half time break 10-20 behind. An extremely well matched second half followed, with the visitors having the advantage to bring on fresh legs in all areas, Dronfield competed gallantly with determination and commitment in defence and in ball carrying. Quick to the ruck minimising Sheffield’s jackling, outstanding try scoring wing play by Daniel along with line breaking bursts from fullback and centre by Charlie and Harry provided territory for the forwards to go over Sheffield’s try line. A final score of 40-30 to Sheffield does not reflect how well our 14 boys applied themselves today. Well played every last one of them. Player of the match goes to Daniel for his wing wizardry and finishing 🏉
