A huge battle up at Dore Moor between two sides well up for the challenge.
The first 15 minutes were scoreless, with Dronfield dominating the territory for the opening minutes, before a swing to Tigers who took control of game for the next period.
The game was dictated by the breakdown, where both teams were keen to contest the ruck and win turnovers. Seth and George were outstanding here, halting several attacks and regaining possession.
The weather did not spoil the ambition of either side. The ball was moved well to the edges and the offloading game continued into the showery period.
Most pleasing, for us, was the attitude and grit in the small battles. Contact skills, ruck, 50:50 moments and set piece control was excellent.
Tigers were first to break the deadlock just before half time, with a quick tap penalty close to the line. This again occurred shortly later from a penalty at the breakdown; Tigers quick to take advantage of the broken play and another quick tap score.
The nip and tuck play continued with possession being lost and gained. A few excellent kick chases put Tigers under pressure, and their big carriers reciprocated , most of the second half being played in the middle 3rd.
George opened the scoring for Dronfield from a period of close quarter carrying in the drizzle. Looked like he'd been practicing a celebration, too!
Dronfield gave away another breakdown penalty close to their line and Tigers again drove over from close range. Small margins for both sides throughout the contest.
Couldn't be more proud of the effort today, as we were treated to a quality game of rugby.
Too tough to choose today, so we went with 3 forwards and 3 backs.
Forwards: epic performances
Seth, George and Tommy.
Backs: threat and defence- outstanding.
Charlie (best game ever today), Billy and Henry.
